Lahaul Potato Society Holds 60th Annual General Meeting, Reports Rs. 9.37 Lakh Net Profit and Expands Farmer Membership.

The Lahaul Potato Producers Association (Lahaul Potato Society), one of India’s leading cooperative institutions in the seed potato sector, successfully conducted its 60th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Karga in Lahaul and Spiti district on Saturday. The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of member farmers representing different parts of the Lahaul Valley, who reviewed the society’s achievements, financial performance, and future development plans.
District Agriculture Officer Dr. Chaudhary Ram attended the event as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted various schemes being implemented by the Agriculture Department to support farmers and encouraged them to take maximum advantage of government initiatives aimed at promoting modern farming practices and quality seed potato production. He also emphasized the importance of adopting advanced agricultural technologies to improve productivity and sustainability.
Presenting the annual report and financial statement, Society Chairman Sudarshan Jaspa informed members that the cooperative had earned a net profit of approximately Rs. 9.37 lakh during the financial year through its business operations. He noted that the society had welcomed a significant number of new farmers as members this year, reflecting growing confidence among the farming community. He further announced that the society would distribute bonuses to all its members as part of its commitment to sharing the benefits of its success.
Jaspa reiterated that all policy and business-related decisions of the cooperative are taken democratically during the General Assembly after obtaining the views and collective consent of members. He stated that the society continues to function with complete transparency, accountability, and democratic principles, while placing farmers’ welfare at the centre of all its activities.
During the interactive session, member farmers urged the Agriculture Department to increase the availability of certified seed potatoes in the region. They stressed that timely access to quality seed is essential for improving crop yields and strengthening potato production in Lahaul Valley.
The AGM also recognized the contributions of long-serving members and outstanding employees associated with the cooperative. Several individuals were honoured for their dedicated service and exceptional work in strengthening the society.
Adding a technical dimension to the event, various agricultural companies showcased their products through exhibitions featuring solid and liquid fertilizers, organic manure, and herbicides. Agricultural experts provided farmers with detailed guidance on the scientific and balanced use of these products to enhance productivity while ensuring sustainable farming practices.
The meeting concluded with the approval of several new proposals aimed at strengthening the cooperative and advancing farmers’ interests. Members also put forward valuable suggestions, which the management resolved to incorporate into the society’s future action plan.
The event was attended by all members of the Society’s Board of Directors, officials from the Cooperative Department, agricultural experts, a large number of member farmers, and other distinguished guests.
