ICAR-CIFE and VAMNICOM Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Cooperative Management in Fisheries.

In a notable advancement for cooperative management within the fisheries sector, the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE) and the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 26, 2024. This strategic alliance aims to support the establishment of 200,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, and fishery cooperatives across every Panchayat in India.

The partnership seeks to improve the integration of advanced technology and promote value addition within fishery cooperatives, enhancing the sector’s overall effectiveness. The MoU was signed at ICAR-CIFE’s Mumbai campus, with Dr. Ravishankar CN, Director and Vice Chancellor of ICAR-CIFE, and Dr. Hema Yadav, Director of VAMNICOM, presiding over the ceremony. Both institutions will collaborate on research, training, and capacity-building initiatives to advance cooperative management practices in fisheries.

Dr. Ravishankar CN emphasized the significance of the MoU, stating, “This partnership will not only strengthen our research capabilities but also expand our impact through innovative training programs. We are eager to explore the advancements in cooperative management that this collaboration will bring.”

Dr. Hema Yadav highlighted the benefits of the partnership, noting, “Joining forces with ICAR-CIFE is a pivotal step towards embedding cooperative management principles into the fisheries sector. This collaboration will harness our combined expertise to drive innovation and improve industry practices.”

The MoU marks the start of a strategic alliance committed to enhancing sustainable livelihood development and operational excellence in fisheries through improved cooperative management.
