PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for Rs 76,000 Crore Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several major development projects in Palghar, Maharashtra. The centerpiece of the event was the foundation stone for the Vadhvan Port, a massive infrastructure project estimated to cost around Rs 76,000 crore. The port is set to become India’s largest container port and one of the world’s premier deep-water ports.

In addition to the port, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 218 fisheries projects worth approximately Rs 1,560 crore. He also launched the national rollout of the Vessel Communication and Support System, valued at around Rs 360 crore. These initiatives include the development, upgradation, and modernization of fishing harbors, fish landing centers, and markets. Modi distributed transponder sets and Kisan Credit Cards to fishermen beneficiaries during the event.

Addressing the gathering, Modi paid tribute to Sant Senaji Maharaj and spoke about his visit to Raigarh Fort in 2013, expressing his reverence for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He emphasized Maharashtra’s potential for maritime trade and the transformative impact the Vadhvan Port will have on the state’s economic landscape. Modi also highlighted the recent decision to develop the Dighi Port Industrial Area, noting its significance in the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The Prime Minister criticized previous governments for delays in the Vadhvan Port project, emphasizing that it was only after the change in government that serious efforts began. He highlighted the substantial investments and job creation anticipated from the project, which is expected to generate around 12 lakh job opportunities.

Modi also underscored the progress made in the fisheries sector, noting a significant increase in fish production and seafood exports over the past decade. He outlined the government’s initiatives to support fishermen, including the installation of 1 lakh transponders for improved communication and safety at sea.

The event was attended by Maharashtra Governor  C.P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and  Ajit Pawar, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, and Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry among others.

Modi concluded his address by praising Maharashtra’s development and women-led achievements, asserting that the state’s progress is crucial to India’s overall growth.
