Rakesh Jamwal Questions Himachal’s Health Services, Flags Shortage of Doctors and Medicines.
Shimla:
BJP MLA Rakesh Jamwal has raised concerns over healthcare facilities in Himachal Pradesh, alleging shortages of doctors, medical staff and essential medicines in government hospitals. He urged the state government to strengthen healthcare services, particularly in rural and remote areas.
Jamwal was speaking during a free medical camp organised by Aastha Hospital at Gram Panchayat Marhada Badaihan in Nihri, Sundernagar constituency. He appreciated the efforts of hospital MD Dr Arun Chandel and his team in providing medical examinations and consultations to local residents.
Questioning the state’s healthcare arrangements, Jamwal said patients often face difficulties obtaining timely treatment and are referred from one hospital to another. He stressed that adequate medical facilities were essential in a mountainous state where many villages are located far from major hospitals.
He said purchasing modern machines alone could not improve healthcare unless trained technicians, doctors, nurses and other staff were available to operate them and treat patients. He also highlighted concerns over the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies in government hospitals.
Jamwal further raised the issue of the reported closure of primary health centres in Bandli and Paudakothi, demanding steps to restore their functioning.
He urged the government to fill vacant posts, ensure regular medicine supplies, improve rural healthcare facilities and prepare a time-bound action plan to address shortcomings in the health system.
