Cyber Crime Police Arrest Key Suspect in Rs. 20 Lakh Fraud Case in Mandi.
Shimla:
The Cyber Crime Police Station of Central Range Mandi has apprehended a key suspect in a significant Rs. 20 lakh fraud case. The accused, identified as 27-year-old Kulveer from Uttar Pradesh, was arrested following a complaint from a former military officer.
According to Manmohan Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, the case revolves around Kulveer’s alleged involvement in a digital extortion scheme. He misled the victim into believing he was facing severe legal issues linked to counterfeit passports and narcotics, resulting in the transfer of funds.
Kulveer, a graduate, had been on the run for five months, frequently changing locations to evade authorities. His arrest was facilitated by technical surveillance and intelligence reports.
The ASP noted that similar cases have been reported against Kulveer in other states, and collaboration with respective police departments is underway.
Authorities are advising the public to refrain from engaging with unknown callers and to promptly report any threats or extortion attempts related to digital arrests. Citizens can verify such claims by contacting the Cyber Helpline at 1930 or reaching out to the Mandi Cyber Crime Police Station at 01905-226900 or via email at pscyber-cr@hp.gov.in.
