Cabinet Approves Significant Hike in Minimum Support Prices for Rabi Crops for 2025-26.

New Delhi:

In a major decision to support farmers, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the Marketing Season 2025-26.

The government aims to ensure that growers receive fair prices for their produce. The highest increase has been granted to Rapeseed & Mustard, which will see an MSP rise of Rs. 300 per quintal, followed closely by Lentil (Masur) at Rs. 275 per quintal. Other crops such as Gram, Wheat, Safflower, and Barley will also experience substantial increases ranging from Rs. 130 to Rs. 210 per quintal.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the new MSPs:

| Crop | MSP 2025-26 | Cost of Production | Increase in MSP | Margin over Cost (%) |

|———————–|————-|——————–|——————|———————–|

| Wheat | 2425 | 1182 | 150 | 105 |

| Barley | 1980 | 1239 | 130 | 60 |

| Gram | 5650 | 3527 | 210 | 60 |

| Lentil (Masur) | 6700 | 3537 | 275 | 89 |

| Rapeseed & Mustard | 5950 | 3011 | 300 | 98 |

| Safflower | 5940 | 3960 | 140 | 50 |

This MSP adjustment aligns with the Union Budget 2018-19 commitment to set MSP at a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production. With these changes, the government aims to provide a robust safety net for farmers and encourage crop diversification across the country.
