Shimla:

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Vichar Vibhag Chairman, Vijay Pal Singh, has sharply criticised the Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, accusing him of indulging in petty politics and making baseless allegations.

Addressing the media today in Mandi, Vijay Pal Singh raised questions about the silence of BJP leaders over the ongoing Adani controversy, which he called a national issue. He praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for bringing up the matter earlier and highlighted recent international attention, including a US report regarding alleged corruption in Adani’s energy dealings.

Vijay Pal also took the opportunity to praise the current Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He commended CM Sukhu’s efforts in prioritising the welfare of vulnerable groups, including Divyang children, widows, and senior citizens. He noted that the Sukhu administration had empowered Divyang children with official rights and the ability to challenge the state for any rights violations. He further lauded the CM for increasing the state’s revenue by Rs. 2200 crore through a new excise policy, while also focusing on providing relief to families affected by rain-related disasters.

He targeted Jairam Thakur’s tenure as Chief Minister, accusing him of indiscriminately spending government funds without focusing on generating revenue. He contrasted this with Sukhu’s approach, which he said focused on sustainable revenue generation and welfare. Singh also raised doubts about the alleged Rs. 1000 crore allocated by the central government for the Mandi airport, questioning Thakur about the whereabouts of the funds and accusing him of misleading the public.

The Congress leader also criticised the failed Janmanch program, launched during Thakur’s tenure, calling it a mismanaged scheme that wasted Rs. 16261 crore without delivering tangible benefits to the people. He further pointed out that under Thakur’s five-year leadership, only 22,000 jobs were created, while CM Sukhu’s government had already issued notifications for 20,000 new jobs within its first year.

Vijay Pal also accused Thakur of plunging the state into massive debt and highlighted the internal divisions within the BJP, citing rivalries among top party leaders such as JP Nadda, Anurag Thakur, Rajeev Bindal, and Jairam Thakur, which he claimed were contributing to political uncertainty in the BJP in Himachal.

He questioned Thakur’s decision to hand over the Janjehli tourism resort to the private sector and criticised him for mismanaging the Bhunter tourism building in Kullu. In contrast, Vijay Pal reiterated CM Sukhu’s commitment to expanding the Kangra airport to boost tourism in the state.

Vijay Pal Singh was accompanied by Congress leaders Joginder Guleria, Dr. Chander Shekhar, Dr. Anil Kumar, and others.
