CM Omar Abdullah Urges Assembly Members to Avoid Comments Hurting Religious Sentiments.

Jammu:

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Thursday, called for caution among members of the state Assembly when discussing religious matters, urging them to avoid making statements that could hurt the sentiments of the people. Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, Abdullah emphasized that it was crucial to maintain respect for all religious beliefs and not engage in discourse that could lead to communal discord.

The Chief Minister’s comments came in the wake of certain discussions in the Assembly, where the word “Jihad” was being used frequently in debates. Abdullah noted that while some individuals may use the term in political or ideological contexts, it is important to recognize the sensitivity of religious issues and refrain from making remarks that might hurt others’ religious feelings. He specifically mentioned that while some individuals freely discuss their religious beliefs, they often get upset when others comment on their own religion. He advised that it was better to avoid such discussions altogether, especially when they might lead to unnecessary controversy.

In his address, Abdullah also assured the public that the government was attentive to the concerns of the people, and no one should feel unheard in the current administration. He particularly addressed the issue of the 39 shopkeepers at Satwari Chowk, who have been served notices to make way for the construction of a flyover. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved amicably, ensuring the shopkeepers’ concerns were taken into account while moving forward with the development project.

Omar Abdullah’s call for restraint in religious discussions aims to foster a respectful and harmonious atmosphere in the legislative proceedings and ensure that the government remains responsive to the concerns of all citizens.
