New Delhi:

In a significant step towards enhancing data accessibility and facilitating informed policy-making, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will officially launch the “NITI NCAER States Economic Forum” portal on 1st April 2025 in New Delhi. Developed by NITI Aayog in collaboration with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), the portal aims to be a comprehensive repository for data on India’s state-level social, economic, and fiscal parameters over the past three decades (1990-91 to 2022-23).

The new portal will serve as a key resource for policymakers, researchers, and experts by providing detailed insights into state finances, demographic trends, economic structures, and socio-economic conditions across 28 Indian states. The portal’s launch marks a major initiative in promoting transparency and evidence-based decision-making at the state and national levels.

Four Key Components of the Portal:

The NITI NCAER States Economic Forum portal will consist of four main sections, each designed to offer comprehensive data and insights:

  1. State Reports: These reports will summarize the macroeconomic and fiscal landscapes of India’s states. They will be structured around a wide array of indicators, including demographic data, economic structures, and fiscal health, helping users understand the specific challenges and opportunities within each state.
  2. Data Repository: This section will provide direct access to an extensive database categorized into five verticals: Demography, Economic Structure, Fiscal, Health, and Education. The repository will allow users to access raw data and detailed statistics for informed research and analysis.
  3. State Fiscal and Economic Dashboard: This feature will provide graphical representations of key economic variables over time, offering quick access to essential data through summary tables or appendices. The dashboard will offer a clear and visual understanding of the economic trajectory of states, facilitating comparative analysis.
  4. Research and Commentary: The portal will also host extensive research on state finances, fiscal policy, and financial management. It will provide expert commentary and analysis on critical aspects of state-level and national fiscal policies, enhancing the depth of understanding of India’s economic landscape.

A Comprehensive Resource for Policymakers and Researchers

The portal is expected to significantly enhance the ability to track and understand macro, fiscal, demographic, and socio-economic trends in India. By consolidating sectoral data in one easy-to-access platform, the portal aims to address the ongoing need for comprehensive information on state finances. It will also help benchmark the performance of each state against national averages, facilitating a more accurate understanding of regional disparities.

The portal’s user-friendly design and easy navigation will enable researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to access data and insights for more effective debates and discussions on fiscal policies. The tool will also provide a platform for evidence-based policy formulation, helping to shape the future development of the country.

Enhancing Research and Development

Beyond providing data, the portal will serve as a hub for research and analysis. It will offer in-depth analytical tools, allowing users to track progress, identify emerging patterns, and formulate data-driven policies to address key developmental challenges in India.

By bringing together decades of data and making it accessible in a central repository, the NITI NCAER States Economic Forum portal will not only contribute to policy improvement but will also enable the creation of more targeted, efficient, and equitable development strategies across India’s states.

With its launch, the portal is poised to become a key resource for anyone looking to explore, understand, and act on India’s diverse and evolving economic landscape.
