Government Mulls Hike in Wool MSP to Support Gaddi Community: CM Sukhu.
Shimla:
In a significant development aimed at uplifting the Gaddi community and promoting livestock-based rural economy, the Himachal Pradesh government is actively considering a hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wool. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made the announcement while interacting with a delegation of the Gaddi community that met him today in Shimla.
The delegation was led by Manoj Kumar, the newly appointed Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Wool Federation. Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Gaddi community, Kumar thanked the Chief Minister for entrusting a representative of the community with such an important responsibility. The delegation appreciated the government’s decision, describing it as a moment of pride for the Gaddis, especially those residing in Chamba and Kangra districts.
Chief Minister Sukhu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the issues faced by the Gaddi community, which primarily depends on sheep and goat rearing for livelihood. “We understand the difficulties faced by livestock rearers, and the government is seriously considering increasing the MSP for wool after consulting all stakeholders,” he stated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the aim is to ensure fair and remunerative prices for wool producers, which in turn will help strengthen the rural economy. He highlighted various measures being undertaken by his administration to support livestock rearers, particularly in the wake of the 2023 monsoon disaster.
“As part of our special relief package, we have already enhanced the financial assistance from Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 6,000 for the loss of sheep, goats, and pigs. We are planning to increase this support further in the near future,” said Sukhu.
Manoj Kumar, while addressing the gathering, pledged to work with full dedication and fulfill the expectations of the Chief Minister and the community. He also emphasized the importance of inclusive development and assured that the Wool Federation would play a proactive role under his leadership.
