Shimla:
A one-day seminar titled “Career Opportunities in the Indian Armed Forces” was successfully organized by the NCC units at Vallabh Government College, Mandi, drawing enthusiastic participation from 108 cadets across the NCC Air Wing and Army Wing. The event aimed to enlighten students about career prospects in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, and to underscore the pivotal role of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in shaping future leaders of the nation.
Lieutenant Colonel Narayan Das, the chief guest and keynote speaker, captivated the audience with his inspiring address. He emphasized that the Indian Armed Forces not only offer a life of honor and prestige but also instill values such as discipline, leadership, courage, and dedication. Highlighting the benefits of a military career, he mentioned world-class training, attractive pay packages, comprehensive healthcare, and post-retirement security as key features of service in the armed forces.
Lt. Col. Das also underlined the mission of the NCC in fostering democratic values, human sensitivity, character development, and leadership among youth. He encouraged cadets to embrace the values of resilience, dignity of labor, and purpose-driven service to the nation.
The seminar was presided over by Professor (Dr.) Ravinder Kumar, Principal of the college. In a ceremonial gesture, Dr. Kumar and Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, the Associate NCC Officer of the Air Wing, presented Lt. Col. Narayan Das with a bouquet and a memento as a token of appreciation for his valuable insights.
Dr. Kumar commended the armed forces for their vital role in protecting national unity and sovereignty, and praised the NCC units for transforming students into responsible cadets and many into commissioned officers. He noted that under the dynamic leadership of Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, over 12 cadets from the college have been commissioned into the Indian Army and Air Force. Furthermore, cadets from the college have had the honor of representing India at international events in Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Russia, and have also participated in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi from 2018 to 2025.
The seminar’s first session featured a detailed presentation by Flying Officer Dr. Chaman on “The Role of NCC in Nation Building.” He highlighted the enduring legacy of NCC, drawing attention to historical figures like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, once a University Cadet Corps member, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who served as the Defence Secretary in Baroda. Dr. Chaman emphasized the NCC’s contribution in grooming leaders across defense, politics, administration, education, and industry.
He also shared that the Ministry of Defence has initiated a special recruitment drive aimed at patriotic and talented youth, enabling them to join the Indian Armed Forces. He explained how the NCC ‘C’ Certificate plays a crucial role in the selection process for commissioned officers, and outlined the wide range of training modules including institutional training, adventure sports, youth exchange programs, and community service.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. Balbir Singh, Army Wing Caretaker Officer, and Dr. Kavita, who played supportive roles in organizing the event.
The seminar concluded with a renewed sense of patriotism and a strong commitment among cadets to serve the nation.
