Congress leader Jagdish Reddy Accuses BJP of Politicizing Tricolour Yatra, Misusing Official Platforms.

Shimla:

Former Congress state secretary Jagdish Reddy has leveled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of exploiting the Tricolour Yatra for political gain. Addressing the media on Saturday, Reddy claimed that the BJP was undermining the dignity of the national flag by converting patriotic initiatives into political spectacles.

Reddy particularly criticized the recent event held in Seraj, which was officially a government function attended by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. According to him, the event was “completely hijacked” by the BJP, turning it into a rally of support for former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. He alleged that slogans in favour of Thakur were raised during the event and schoolchildren were made to carry the national flag, a move he deemed highly inappropriate and politically motivated.

“The BJP is crossing all limits by politicizing even national symbols. The participation of schoolchildren and government officials in such events reflects irresponsible conduct,” said Reddy. He further stated that the chanting of slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” during a state-sponsored function was inappropriate and a violation of the spirit of official neutrality.

Reddy claimed that Congress workers were also present at the event but chose to walk away after sensing the politicized atmosphere. He warned that complaints would be lodged against school principals and government officials who facilitated the BJP’s actions during the function. “We will demand strict action from the government against those who allowed the misuse of a state platform for partisan purposes,” he added.

Addressing the recent Operation Sindoor, Reddy acknowledged it as a legitimate military action aimed at eliminating terrorist threats. However, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using the operation for political mileage. “It was a targeted military response against terror camps, and all credit should go to the Indian Armed Forces. Unfortunately, the Prime Minister is trying to turn it into a political event by promoting his image rather than honouring the soldiers,” Reddy said.

Senior Congress leaders including Hem Singh, Virender, and Jashwant Mehta were also present during the press briefing, expressing solidarity with Reddy’s statements and reinforcing the party’s demand for accountability from both the BJP and government officials involved in the Seraj incident.
