Daulatpur Chowk (Una):

In a significant push for infrastructure and public welfare in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs. 75.10 crore in the Gagret Assembly Constituency of Una district. Speaking at a well-attended public meeting at Daulatpur Chowk in Una district, the CM launched a scathing attack on the previous BJP-led government, accusing it of fiscal mismanagement and neglect of core development issues.

While announcing a slew of initiatives ranging from road and bridge construction to water supply and health infrastructure, the Chief Minister said, “The BJP ruled for five years, glorifying the concept of ‘double engine Sarkar’, but in reality, it derailed the state’s economy by excessive borrowing and short-sighted populist measures.

Key Infrastructure Announcements and Inaugurations

Among the major announcements, CM Sukhu declared additional funding for the long-pending Daulatpur-Bhadrakali road and committed funds for completing the new Gagret Hospital building. He also shared that the survey for the Hoshiarpur-Nadaun four-lane road has been completed and construction will begin soon. Several healthcare vacancies at Daulatpur Chowk and Gagret Primary Health Centres will be filled promptly, and tube wells will be installed in water-scarce regions of the constituency.

The CM inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple high-value projects, including:

  • A 400-meter span bridge on the Swan River (Rs. 42.82 crore)
  • Four smaller bridges on Gagret to Oyal Bhawa road (Rs. 2.70 crore)
  • Bridge over Jadla Khad (Rs. 3.59 crore)
  • Metalling and tarring of village roads (Rs. 6.46 crore)
  • New building for Government Degree College, Daulatpur Chowk (Rs. 2.79 crore)

The day also saw inaugurations of several drinking water schemes worth over Rs. 10 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission and improvements in tube-well infrastructure across the constituency.

Political Attack on BJP

The Chief Minister did not shy away from launching a direct attack on the opposition BJP, blaming it for “ruining Himachal’s fiscal health.” He alleged that just before the 2022 elections, the BJP government “opened 600 schools and health centers without planning and gave out subsidies worth over Rs. 3,000 crore to industrial lobbies, leaving public assets depleted and the treasury strained.”

On education, Sukhu lamented that Himachal, once known for its top-tier education system, has dropped to the 21st rank nationally, attributing it to flawed BJP policies. He announced the merging of schools with poor student-teacher ratios to improve quality education delivery.

Una Becomes Solar District; Bulk Drug Park to Boost Industry

The CM also lauded Una district’s transformation into the first solar-powered district in Himachal Pradesh, citing completed solar projects in Pekhubela (32 MW), Bhanjal (5 MW), and Aghlaur (10 MW), and upcoming projects worth Rs. 500 crore. He added that the much-awaited Bulk Drug Park in Haroli will soon commence construction, promising thousands of new jobs.

Deputy CM Agnihotri Highlights Water Schemes, Centre’s Apathy

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri highlighted a Rs. 170 crore investment in water supply schemes for Gagret, stating this will provide a long-term solution to drinking and irrigation water issues. He criticized the central government for releasing just Rs. 137 crore of the Rs. 2,000 crore due to Himachal Pradesh under various water-related projects.

Local MLA Raises Development Demands

Local MLA Rakesh Kalia welcomed the CM and expressed gratitude for the projects dedicated to the constituency. He sought expedited funding for completing Gagret Hospital, and also urged early land acquisition for 33 KV substations in Loharli and Mubarakpur, along with support for local roads and granting district-level status to the Shivbari Fair.

Leaders and Dignitaries in Attendance

The event was attended by several senior leaders, including Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, MLA Sudarshan Babloo, SC Commission Chairman Kuldeep Kumar, Advocate General Anup Kumar Rattan, District Congress President Ranjeet Rana, Block Congress President Surender Kanwar, and senior district officers.

With today’s announcements, the Sukhu-led government reaffirmed its commitment to reviving Himachal Pradesh’s economy, enhancing rural infrastructure, and delivering long-pending developmental promises — all while holding the previous administration accountable for alleged financial misgovernance.
