Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) celebrated its 56th Foundation Day with pride and enthusiasm, marking over five decades of academic excellence and contribution to the state’s progress. On this momentous occasion, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended warm greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh and hailed the university as a cornerstone of youth empowerment and holistic development.

In his congratulatory message, the Chief Minister described HPU as more than just an educational institution, calling it a reflection of the state’s social, political, cultural, and economic evolution over the years. “It is a proud moment for all of us as the university completes 55 glorious years of imparting knowledge to the youth of the state,” said CM Sukhu.

The Chief Minister, an alumnus of HPU himself, shared a personal note of gratitude and nostalgia. He reminisced about the significant role the university played in shaping his personality, thoughts, and worldview. Recalling his time as a student, he fondly mentioned the invaluable guidance of his teachers and the cherished memories created with his peers, which he continues to hold dear.

Emphasizing the importance of adapting to the rapidly changing world, particularly in the age of information technology, the Chief Minister urged the university to become a dynamic symbol of transformation. “We are living in the era of technology and innovation. Failing to keep pace with these changes means falling behind. HPU must not only modernize its academic curriculum but also reform its administrative systems,” he said.

He suggested that the university should adopt flexible and streamlined processes for updating and revising its courses, and should introduce new, relevant content that meets the needs of today’s market. Simultaneously, he recommended phasing out outdated and irrelevant programs to make way for practical and skill-oriented education.

The Chief Minister stressed that the ultimate goal should be to produce graduates who are not just degree holders but also skilled, self-reliant individuals prepared to meet the challenges of the future. In this regard, he welcomed the establishment of five new research centres at HPU, describing the move as a forward-looking initiative aligned with the demands of the modern world.

He also commended Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mahavir Singh for steering these progressive changes and expressed optimism that the university would continue its journey toward academic excellence and innovation.

In a touching gesture of solidarity, CM Sukhu thanked the teaching and non-teaching staff of the university for contributing a portion of their salaries to the Chief Minister Relief Fund, in aid of disaster-affected communities in the state. He praised their noble gesture as a testament to the university’s values and its commitment to social responsibility.

The 56th Foundation Day celebrations at HPU thus served not only as a time to reflect on the university’s past achievements but also as a clarion call for future growth, innovation, and community leadership.
