Transfer of 41 Doctors from Nerchowk Medical College Sparks Political Outcry in Mandi.

Shimla:

The Himachal Pradesh government’s decision to transfer 41 doctors from Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Nerchowk has ignited strong political reactions in Mandi district. Balh MLA Inder Singh Gandhi accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of harboring an “anti-Mandi and anti-Balh mindset,” calling the move a deliberate attempt to weaken the region’s key medical institution.

Gandhi said the decision was a direct injustice to Balh’s people and a blow to health services across the district. He alleged that while the Chief Minister publicly promises non-discrimination, his actions consistently prove otherwise. “Nerchowk Medical College is the backbone of Himachal’s healthcare system, and transferring 41 doctors at once is an attack on public health,” he said.

The BJP legislator further claimed that since the Congress came to power, Mandi has faced continuous neglect — from shifting colleges out of Sardar Patel University to halting local development projects. He said the government’s actions reflected political vendetta, as nine of Mandi’s ten assembly seats are held by the BJP.

Gandhi warned that if the transfers were not revoked, the BJP and people of Balh would launch a protest movement, vowing to defend Mandi’s rights democratically.
