Centre Extends Historic Support of Over Rs. 4,830 Crore for Himachal’s Road Network: BJP’s Ajay Rana Slams Congress for Politicising Development.
Shimla:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state spokesperson Ajay Rana on Sunday asserted that the Central government has provided “historic and unprecedented financial support” to Himachal Pradesh for strengthening and expanding the state’s road infrastructure. He claimed that more than Rs. 4,830 crore has been sanctioned to the Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) under various Central schemes over the past three years.
Rana highlighted that the highest allocation has been made under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana–III (PMGSY-3), with approvals amounting to Rs. 3,345.81 crore. Out of this, Rs. 1,357.89 crore has already been spent, while the remaining Rs. 1,987.92 crore is under tendering and active construction. He said this investment is significantly improving road upgradation, rural connectivity and economic activity in remote regions of the state.
Under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the state received Rs. 992.77 crore, of which Rs. 100.07 crore has been utilised so far, leaving Rs. 892.70 crore for ongoing and upcoming works. Similarly, Rs. 491.87 crore was approved under Special Central Assistance (SCA), with Rs. 340.86 crore already spent and Rs. 151.01 crore still available for projects.
The BJP spokesperson added that in Chopal Assembly constituency alone, projects worth Rs. 167.62 crore have been completed, while nearly Rs. 690 crore worth of sanctioned work is still in progress. He said these Central schemes are accelerating the expansion of road networks, construction of bridges and strengthening of critical infrastructure across Himachal Pradesh.
Rana asserted that these developments clearly demonstrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the state’s holistic growth. However, he criticised the Congress party, alleging that its leaders “do not acknowledge the Centre’s generous assistance” and instead “engage in politics even over development”.
He said the BJP stands firmly on facts and developmental work, while the Congress focuses only on claiming credit and spreading confusion. “The people of Himachal are well aware of who is truly driving the state’s progress,” he added.
