Dr. Dayak Ram Thakur, Associate Professor of Political Science in the Department of Higher Education, has been promoted to the post of Principal at Government College Ani, District Kullu. Dr. Thakur is an alumnus of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, a former NCC cadet, and has served the Political Science Department of the college as a faculty member.

His promotion as Principal has created an atmosphere of pride and happiness at Vallabh Government College, Mandi. Born into a humble farming family in village Kuted, Gram Panchayat Mashogal, under Karsog Sub-Division, Dr. Dayak Ram Thakur’s life stands as a shining example of struggle, perseverance, and unwavering determination.

Dr. Thakur received his primary education from Government Primary School Golhan and completed his 10+2 education from Senior Secondary School, Karsog. Due to financial hardships, he was unable to secure admission for higher education for one year. However, refusing to succumb to adverse circumstances, he gained admission to Vallabh Government College, Mandi, in 1988.

He completed his graduation with Honours and post-graduation in Political Science from Vallabh Government College, Mandi. In 1990, he earned the NCC ‘C’ Certificate from the same institution. In 1994, he successfully qualified the UGC-NET examination in Political Science. Subsequently, he began his teaching career at Vallabh Government College on a modest honorarium of ₹30 per lecture.

In 1995, after qualifying the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission examination, Dr. Thakur served as a Lecturer (School Cadre) at Government Senior Secondary Schools Panarsa and Kotli for two years. In 1997, he again cleared the HPPSC examination and was appointed permanently at Vallabh Government College. Thereafter, from 1998 to 2013, he rendered fifteen years of dedicated service at Government College Karsog.

During this period, he earned his M.Phil. degree from Kurukshetra University and his Ph.D. from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. Following this, he served with distinction as a college professor at Government Colleges Basa, Drang (Narala), Dehar, and Baldwara. In recognition of his academic excellence and administrative capabilities, Dr. Dayak Ram Thakur has now been promoted to the post of Principal at Government College Ani, District Kullu.

The Principal of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, along with the entire teaching and non-teaching staff, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Thakur on his promotion.

Speaking on the occasion, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman stated that Dr. Dayak Ram Thakur’s contribution to the field of education has been remarkable. He has authored three books, and several of his research papers have been published in reputed academic journals. Alongside teaching, he also served as NCC Care Taker Officer at Government College Karsog for eleven years.

Trekking and travel have remained his cherished passions. Dr. Thakur has undertaken pilgrimages to sacred and challenging destinations such as Shrikhand Mahadev, Kinner Kailash, Manimahesh, Shri Amarnath, Churdhar, and Dainasar, and has also authored travelogues based on these journeys.

Dr. Dayak Ram Thakur attributes his success to the blessings of his parents and mentors. He has expressed deep gratitude to his respected teachers—Dr. Arunoday Vajpayee, Dr. V.D. Sharma, Shri V.K. Sharma, Professor O.C. Sood, and Professor Mahendra Malhotra.

On this occasion, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman further remarked that Dr. Dayak Ram Thakur is an accomplished writer, a dedicated academician, and a person of exemplary character. He shared that Dr. Thakur’s daughter is a medical intern, while his son is pursuing higher education in Shimla. His wife, Mrs. Rama Thakur, an M.Phil. postgraduate, is a capable and educated homemaker.

Notably, Dr. Dayak Ram Thakur has maintained a lifelong association with Vallabh Government College, Mandi—as a student, NCC cadet, and faculty member—making his journey truly inspirational.
