HP SHIVA Project Gives New Boost to Horticulture in Sundernagar.
Shimla:
Sundernagar has taken a significant step forward in the field of horticulture with the launch of a large-scale plantation drive under the HP SHIVA Project at Khurahal and Bhuwana. The initiative was inaugurated today, marking a new chapter in strengthening the rural economy and empowering local orchardists.
Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and senior Congress leader from Sundernagar, Sohan Lal Thakur, said the project reflects the far-sighted vision of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who is committed to doubling farmers’ income and promoting sustainable agriculture across Himachal Pradesh. He added that under the able guidance of Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi, the department has achieved a remarkable milestone by preparing 19 hectares of land in record time.

Under this phase of the project, a target has been set to plant 11,875 saplings, with a special focus on high-value cash crops such as Japanese fruit (Persimmon). These crops are expected to open new income avenues for local gardeners and significantly enhance their economic stability.
Sohan Lal Thakur emphasized that the HP SHIVA Project is not merely a plantation drive but a comprehensive effort to modernize horticulture, introduce diversified fruit crops, and ensure long-term prosperity for farming communities. He reaffirmed that continuous efforts will be made for the welfare of orchardists and the overall development and prosperity of the region.
The initiative has generated enthusiasm among farmers, who see it as a promising step toward a more secure and profitable future in horticulture.
