UNICEF Condemns Deadly Attack in Islamabad That Killed Six Children.
Agency calls for urgent protection of children following tragic incident at place of worship.
Islamabad:
UNICEF has strongly condemned the devastating attack at a place of worship in Islamabad on 6 February, which reportedly claimed the lives of six children. Pernille Ironside, UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, described the incident as a grave violation of children’s rights.
“No child should ever be a target, nor exposed to violence. Children must be protected at all times,” Ironside said, extending condolences to the families of the victims and the wider communities affected.
The agency emphasized that attacks on children are unconscionable under any circumstances and reiterated the urgent need for measures to ensure the safety and protection of all children in Pakistan.
UNICEF’s statement comes amid ongoing concerns over the vulnerability of children in conflict and violence-prone settings, underlining the global commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and wellbeing.
The organization called on authorities, communities, and all stakeholders to prioritize the protection of children and prevent further tragedies of this kind.
