PM Narendra Modi Holds Key Talks with US and Sri Lankan Leaders on West Asia Crisis and Energy Security.
New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held crucial telephonic conversations with US President Donald Trump and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, focusing on the evolving situation in West Asia and its global implications, particularly on energy security and regional stability.
Focus on De-escalation and Peace
During his conversation with Donald Trump, Prime Minister Modi discussed the current tensions in West Asia, emphasizing India’s clear position in favor of de-escalation and the early restoration of peace. The leaders exchanged views on ongoing developments and discussed on the importance of diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region.
A key concern highlighted by the Prime Minister was the need to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure, and accessible, given its critical role in global energy supply chains. Any disruption in this vital shipping route could have far-reaching consequences for economies worldwide.
Both leaders agreed to remain in touch and coordinate on efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Talks with Sri Lanka on Energy and Regional Security
In a separate conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Modi reviewed the impact of the West Asia situation on global energy security, with particular attention to supply disruptions.
The two leaders also assessed progress on key initiatives designed to strengthen India–Sri Lanka energy cooperation, including joint efforts to enhance energy resilience and infrastructure connectivity.
Reaffirming the strong bilateral relationship, both sides emphasized their commitment as close and trusted partners to work collaboratively in addressing shared regional and global challenges.
Strategic Importance
The back-to-back high-level engagements underline India’s proactive diplomatic outreach amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia. With energy security emerging as a major concern, India continues to play a constructive role in advocating stability, safeguarding critical trade routes, and deepening partnerships in the region.
These discussions reflect India’s broader strategic priorities of ensuring energy security, regional cooperation, and global peace in an increasingly uncertain geopolitical environment.
