The newly developed facility can accommodate up to 315 vehicles and is expected to significantly ease parking woes in the state capital.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the State Government remains committed to strengthening urban infrastructure and ensuring the availability of basic amenities for residents and visitors. He stated that the parking facility would prove beneficial for local residents as well as tourists visiting Shimla, which continues to witness increasing vehicular traffic.
Sukhu said that the present State Government had made adequate budgetary provisions to ensure the completion of the project. Highlighting the growing need for parking infrastructure in the city, he emphasized that the government is focusing on developing additional parking facilities to address congestion and improve traffic management.
The Chief Minister also outlined several major urban development initiatives being undertaken in Shimla. He informed that the government is investing Rs 246 crore in the construction of an underground utility duct system aimed at making the city more organized and efficient. Under the project, overhead utility cables across Shimla are being shifted underground, which will not only improve the city’s visual appeal but also strengthen its infrastructure.
He said that the initiative would contribute significantly to preserving Shimla’s historic charm and scenic beauty while enhancing the overall experience for residents and tourists. The project is expected to support the tourism sector by maintaining the aesthetic character of the hill station.
In another major announcement, Sukhu revealed that the State Government has allocated Rs 150 crore for the improvement and widening of Shimla’s circular road. He said the project would help decongest one of the city’s key traffic corridors and provide smoother connectivity for commuters and visitors.
“The widening and improvement of the circular road will go a long way in facilitating both the local population and tourists by reducing traffic congestion and improving road safety,” the Chief Minister said.
Several dignitaries were present during the inauguration ceremony, including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, councillors, Special Secretary (PWD) Harbans Brascon, and other senior officials.
