Tribal Festival 2026 Begins with Grand Procession and Traditional Nati at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti.

The much-awaited Tribal Festival 2026, one of the most significant cultural and traditional events of Lahaul-Spiti district, began on Friday with a grand procession in Keylong, showcasing the district’s rich tribal heritage, Buddhist traditions, folk culture and vibrant community spirit.
The inaugural celebrations offered a spectacular glimpse into the unique cultural identity of Lahaul-Spiti, with local traditions, religious practices, traditional attire and folk performances taking centre stage.
The grand procession witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, cultural groups, monks and Lamas from various monasteries. Dressed in traditional attire, Buddhist monks and Lamas added a distinct spiritual and cultural dimension to the procession. Their participation reflected the deep-rooted religious traditions and Buddhist heritage of the tribal district.
Local people and cultural troupes also showcased their traditional costumes, customs and folk traditions during the procession. The colourful display created a festive atmosphere in Keylong and highlighted the diversity and richness of Lahaul-Spiti’s indigenous cultural practices.
Following the procession, a traditional religious ceremony was held at the festival venue. Lamas from different monasteries performed prayers and rituals according to established religious traditions and sought blessings for the successful and peaceful conduct of the festival.
The formal inauguration ceremony was attended by Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana, Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana and SDM Keylong Kunika Akers, along with other dignitaries and local representatives. The dignitaries jointly lit the ceremonial lamp, marking the official commencement of Tribal Festival 2026.
The celebrations became even more vibrant after the inauguration with a grand Nati performance, the traditional folk dance of Himachal Pradesh. The performance attracted enthusiastic participation from local residents and artists, creating an atmosphere of collective celebration.
MLA Anuradha Rana, Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana and SDM Kunika Akers also joined local people and artists in the Nati. Dancing together to the beats of traditional folk music, the participants presented a powerful symbol of community participation, cultural pride and social harmony.
The opening day of Tribal Festival 2026 thus brought together the diverse cultural elements of Lahaul-Spiti—from religious traditions and ceremonial practices to folk music, dance and traditional attire. The procession, prayers and Nati collectively reflected the living cultural heritage of the region.
The festival holds significance not only as a platform for showcasing the distinctive tribal culture of Lahaul-Spiti to visitors from across the country and beyond, but also as an important initiative for connecting the younger generation with its traditional heritage.
Through cultural programmes, competitions and a range of activities scheduled over the coming days, the festival is expected to provide a platform for local artists, cultural groups and communities to celebrate and preserve their traditions.
