Himachal Pradesh Leaps from 21st to 5th Rank in National Achievement Survey 2025: A Milestone in Quality Education.

Shimla:

In a remarkable turnaround, Himachal Pradesh has jumped from 21st position in 2021 to 5th in the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2025, also known as PARAKH 2025, marking a major milestone in the state’s pursuit of quality education. The transformation comes under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, whose administration has introduced a series of bold and reform-oriented initiatives in the education sector.

The NAS 2025 results reveal Himachal’s stellar performance across key academic levels:

  • 2nd Rank at Grade 3 Level
  • 5th Rank at Grade 6 Level
  • 4th Rank at Grade 9 Level

These rankings underscore significant qualitative improvements in learning outcomes and academic performance across government schools in the state.

Reforms That Drove the Change

The unprecedented rise in rankings is largely credited to several strategic reforms and policy initiatives rolled out by the current government. Among them:

  • Merger of schools with low enrollment, allowing better resource allocation.
  • Rationalization of teaching staff to ensure optimal teacher-student ratios.
  • Accelerated recruitment process to fill long-pending teaching vacancies.
  • Establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in a phased manner across all assembly constituencies, offering holistic education in modern environments.
  • Exposure visits for students and teachers to international educational institutions, promoting global learning and innovation.

These initiatives, according to education experts, have fostered a more effective, engaging, and outcome-driven academic ecosystem in the state.

Recognition and Future Roadmap

Rajesh Sharma, State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, hailed the achievement as a significant validation of the government’s commitment to education reform. “This leap is not just about rankings, but a reflection of how targeted governance and policy shifts can uplift an entire education system,” he said. He also confirmed that an official recognition ceremony will be held on July 2 in Delhi, where he will represent Himachal Pradesh.

Sharma added that this achievement strengthens Himachal Pradesh’s growing identity as a national model for quality education and sets a benchmark for other states to emulate.

A Vision for Educational Excellence

Commenting on the state’s performance, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reiterated his government’s vision of transforming education into a powerful vehicle for social and economic empowerment. He emphasized that these reforms are part of a long-term roadmap to prepare students for global challenges, while preserving equitable access to quality learning.

With its eyes set on further reforms and expansion of infrastructure, Himachal Pradesh appears poised to continue its upward trajectory in the field of education, establishing itself as a leader not just in literacy, but in quality and outcome-based learning.
