General Category Organisations Unite Against “UGC Black Law”, Announce Massive Protest in Sundernagar on March 6.

Shimla:

Various organisations representing the general category community have come together to oppose what they termed the “UGC black law,” recently introduced by the Central Government for higher educational institutions across the country.

A joint meeting of senior office-bearers from multiple community bodies was convened under the banner of the Samanya Varg Sanyukt Manch at Suket Cinema Complex in Sundernagar. The meeting was presided over by State President K.S. Jamwal and witnessed active participation from leading representatives of Rajput Sabha, Brahmin Sabha, Mahajan Sabha, Khatri Sabha, Ahluwalia Sabha, along with youth members and senior citizens from the region.

Strong Opposition to UGC Provisions

During the meeting, members unanimously took strong exception to the implementation of the alleged “UGC black law” in higher educational institutions. The participants resolved to intensify their opposition and demand its immediate rollback, claiming that the provisions of the law could adversely impact the general category community.

The forum also endorsed the ongoing statewide agitation being spearheaded by the Samanya Varg Sanyukt Manch and the Rajput Mahasabha against the said law.

Massive Protest Rally on March 6

As part of the state-wide movement, the organisations announced a large protest demonstration in Sundernagar on March 6. Protesters will assemble at Maharana Pratap Chowk at 11:00 AM and proceed in a rally through Bhojpur’s main market to the SDM Office.

A memorandum addressed to the President of India, the Prime Minister, and the Union Education Minister will be submitted through the SDM Sundernagar, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the law.

Organising Committee Formed

To ensure the success of the protest, an organising committee has been constituted under the leadership of Ranvijay Singh, Sunil Sen, Damyanti Thakur, Harry Rajput, and Advocate Jitendra Sharma. The committee will conduct outreach campaigns across local panchayats and municipal wards to mobilise maximum participation and raise awareness about the issue.

Warning to Government and Political Representatives

Addressing the gathering, State President K.S. Jamwal, along with Hem Singh Thakur, Shiv Singh Sen, Narottam Shastri, Ranvijay Singh, and other key members, cautioned the Central Government about the alleged adverse consequences of the law. They warned that if the decision is not revoked immediately, the general category community would escalate its agitation and consider a complete boycott of the government.

The speakers also expressed concern over the silence of political leaders associated with the general category community on the issue, stating that continued neglect of the community’s concerns could have serious repercussions in the future.
