Government to explore SCA elections at HPU: CM inaugurates ‘Maitree’ programme.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the ‘Maitree’ programme of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Alumni today, reminiscing about his own university days as pivotal to his political journey. The event, attended by alumni spanning the 1990s decade and an international contingent, marked a celebration of HPU’s enduring legacy.

Addressing the gathering, CM Sukhu pledged the government’s commitment to explore the feasibility of conducting Students Central Association (SCA) elections at HPU, underscoring ongoing discussions with university authorities. Emphasizing educational reforms, he highlighted initiatives such as introducing English medium in primary government schools and establishing Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools across all 68 constituencies.

“With a vision to enhance higher education through modern teaching technologies, we aim to empower every student,” remarked the CM, urging students to uphold civic responsibility and mutual respect.

In efforts to bolster Himachal’s economic stability, CM Sukhu affirmed a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, attributing previous economic challenges to inherited debt burdens. He outlined ambitious plans to position Himachal Pradesh as the most prosperous state by 2032 through sustainable resource management and economic growth strategies.

The CM also unveiled plans for ‘Mukhya Mantri Sukh Aashray’, highlighting the adoption of 4000 orphaned children by the state and unveiling a Center of Excellence in Tikri, Solan district, catering to 300 Divyangjans.

Additionally, CM Sukhu announced a grant of two crore rupees towards constructing the alumni association’s building and released three books authored by senior journalist Sanjeev Sharma, encapsulating personal and historical narratives of HPU.

MLA Satpal Singh Satti reflected on the university’s role in shaping political careers, noting the diverse ideologies nurtured among alumni, including prominent figures like Union Minister JP Nadda and former Union Minister Anand Sharma.

President of the Alumni Association, Prof. Chandramohan Parshira, welcomed the CM, affirming the association’s commitment to fostering Neri’s development in Shimla district.

The event, graced by dignitaries including Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur, MLA Kewal Singh Pathania, and former HPU students from India and abroad, highlighted HPU’s enduring influence on leadership and community development.
