Iran Warns of “Decisive Action” After Strike on South Pars Gas Field.

Tehran:

Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after Iran’s armed forces issued a stern warning of retaliation following reported attacks on its energy infrastructure, including facilities linked to the strategically vital South Pars gas field.

In a statement carried by the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency, the Iranian military confirmed that parts of the country’s fuel and energy infrastructure in the south had been targeted. While the statement did not directly name the attacker, it strongly suggested involvement by what it described as the “American-Zionist enemy.”

“The enemy has attacked part of Iran’s fuel and energy infrastructure in the south,” the statement said. It further warned that any such strikes would trigger a forceful response: “As previously warned, if the fuel, energy, gas, and economic infrastructures of our country are attacked… in addition to a powerful counterattack against the enemy, we will severely strike the origin of that aggression as well.”

The targeted facilities are located in the South Pars gas field, one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves. The field is jointly shared between Iran and Qatar, making it a critical component of global energy supply.

Adding an international dimension to the incident, Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s foreign ministry, stated that the facilities were struck by Israel. Israel has not officially commented on the allegation at the time of reporting.

Qatar and Iran both operate extraction infrastructure in the shared field—known as South Pars in Iran and the North Field in Qatar. Any disruption to operations could have broader implications for global gas markets, especially given Qatar’s role as one of the world’s leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporters.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing hostilities involving Iran, Israel, and allied actors. Analysts warn that further escalation—particularly involving energy infrastructure—could risk destabilizing not only regional security but also global energy supplies.

No independent verification of the damage or casualties has been reported so far. However, the strong language used by Iranian authorities signals the potential for retaliatory measures, raising concerns of a wider confrontation in the region.
