Netanyahu Announces Major Defense Expansion, Emphasizes Military Strength and Self-Reliance.

Jerusalem:

Prime Minister on Sunday outlined an ambitious plan to significantly strengthen Israel’s military capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign defense supplies, asserting that the country must maintain clear superiority over its adversaries.

In a statement delivered earlier in the day, Netanyahu declared, “Israel is stronger than ever, and Israel must always be significantly stronger than our enemies,” framing his vision around two key principles: strengthening military power and ensuring national independence in defense production.

Advanced Aircraft Acquisition

Highlighting ongoing efforts to bolster Israel’s air force, Netanyahu confirmed the acquisition of two squadrons of advanced fighter jets, including the and the . He said these additions would reinforce Israel’s air superiority, which he claimed had already been demonstrated in recent military operations.

According to the Prime Minister, Israeli pilots are capable of reaching “any point in the skies of Iran” if necessary, underscoring both the range and preparedness of the country’s air capabilities.

Massive Boost to Defense Budget

As part of a broader push for self-reliance, Netanyahu announced plans to invest an additional 350 billion shekels (NIS) into the defense budget over the next decade. The funding will primarily focus on expanding domestic production of munitions, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers, and strengthening Israel’s strategic autonomy.

He also revealed plans to develop advanced, domestically manufactured aircraft, a move he said would “change the entire picture” of Israel’s defense capabilities.

Focus on Drone Threat

Addressing emerging security challenges, Netanyahu disclosed that he recently ordered the creation of a special national project aimed at countering drone threats. A progress report on the initiative is expected to be presented to him soon.

While acknowledging that the effort would take time, he emphasized that addressing unmanned aerial threats is a top priority for the government.

Strategic Outlook

The Prime Minister reiterated that Israel will continue to maintain superiority across all operational domains, including air, land, and emerging technological arenas.

The announcement reflects Israel’s ongoing efforts to adapt to evolving regional threats while investing heavily in advanced military technology and domestic defense infrastructure.
