Union Home Minister Amit Shah Approves Rs. 1,554.99 Crore Additional Central Assistance for Disaster-Affected States.
New Delhi:
In a significant move to support states affected by natural disasters, the High-Level Committee (HLC), chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, has approved Rs. 1,554.99 crore in additional Central assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). This funding is allocated to five states — Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana, and Tripura — which suffered from floods, flash floods, landslides, and a cyclonic storm in 2024.
The approved amount, which will be subject to an adjustment of 50% of the opening balance from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), is a demonstration of the Central Government’s commitment to assisting those in need during such natural calamities. Out of the total Rs. 1,554.99 crore, Andhra Pradesh will receive Rs. 608.08 crore, Nagaland will get Rs. 170.99 crore, Odisha will receive Rs. 255.24 crore, Telangana is allocated Rs. 231.75 crore, and Tripura will be provided with Rs. 288.93 crore.
This release comes in addition to the funds already disbursed through the SDRF. In the financial year 2024-25, the Centre has already released Rs. 18,322.80 crore to 27 states through SDRF and Rs. 4,808.30 crore from NDRF to 18 states. Additionally, Rs. 2,208.55 crore has been allocated from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 14 states, and Rs. 719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to eight states.
The Central Government’s proactive approach is evident through the swift deployment of Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to these affected regions. These teams were dispatched promptly after the disasters, even before the formal receipt of disaster memorandums, ensuring timely assessment and relief.
This generous financial assistance is part of the Central Government’s ongoing efforts to support the people of the affected states and strengthen disaster response mechanisms, reflecting the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in times of crisis.
