State-Level Suket Devta Fair Kicks Off in Sundernagar, Inaugurated by PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh.

The five-day state-level Suket Devta Fair began today in Sundernagar of Mandi district, with PWD and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh officially inaugurating the event. The grand celebration commenced with a prayer ceremony at Shukdev Vatika, followed by a vibrant procession from Shukdev Vatika to Jawahar Park, Sundernagar. The fair was formally inaugurated with the hoisting of the fair flag at Jawahar Park.

PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, along with former CPS Sohan Lal Thakur, inaugurating and laying foundation stones of development projects. During the event, Minister Singh also laid the foundation for several development projects, including the renovation of Shukdev Vatika and Dehari Park, valued at Rs. 3 crore, and a new Executive Officer residential building, with an estimated cost of Rs. 50 lakh.

Addressing the gathering at Jawahar Park, Singh highlighted the significance of the event, stating that Sundernagar is now honored to host one of the largest Devta Melas in Himachal Pradesh. Nearly 175 deities from across the Mandi district, including Mahunag, Kamrunag, and Devi Kamaksha, are participating in the fair.

Singh emphasized that it was their responsibility to advance development alongside the preservation of the state’s divine culture. “We are committed to accelerating development in Mandi district,” he stated, adding that efforts were underway to ensure the welfare of those affected by the four-lane highway project.

Development Updates:

Salahpur-Tattapani Road: Singh assured that work on the Salahpur to Tattapani road is ongoing and will be completed soon. The project is being closely monitored, and funds have been allocated.

Pandoh Bridge: He also announced that the construction of the Pandoh Bridge would commence within a month, following the approval of Rs. 140 crore from the central government for rebuilding bridges washed away during the monsoon.

Sundernagar’s Dev Sadan: In response to requests from the Suket Sarv Devta Mela Committee, Singh confirmed plans to build a Dev Sadan in Sundernagar, similar to the ones in Kullu and Mandi. He assured the public that he would discuss this project with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Fight Against Drug Trafficking: Addressing the growing concern over drug abuse, Singh reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking. He revealed that new laws are being formulated, and any drug peddler, regardless of their affiliation, will face strict punishment. A proposal to make possession of even small amounts of narcotics a non-bailable offense has already been sent to the central government.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Lal Thakur, Agricultural Produce Market Committee President Sanjeev Guleria, and local dignitaries.

The Suket Devta Mela, a significant cultural event, continues to attract visitors and devotees from across the region, marking a blend of spirituality and regional development in Sundernagar.
